Latest Project

I saw this online and naturally had to try it for myself. I've been wanting a white board in my kitchen to write myself notes when I'm cooking about what I need to buy because, let's be honest, I never remember once it's actually time to go shopping. I've put off buying a white board for various reasons and now I'm glad I did! All I did for this was buy a big picture frame (this one was originally $55 and I got it for $10. Woohoo!), about 1/2 yard of fabric, and some hot glue. Then I hot glued the fabric to the cardboard that comes in the picture frame, stuck it back in the frame, and voila! I have a cute white board that can actually match my home instead of a big boring white slab on the wall! I bought some self-adhesive magnet strips at Wal-Mart for a dollar (thanks to Nikki for teaching me about those), and attached one to the edge of the frame and one to the marker, and now I'll never have to wonder where the marker went:) Seriously, whoever came up with the idea of writing on the glass of a picture frame for a white board was pretty dang witty. The best part is, I can change the fabric in it whenever I want a new look. For now I've left the picture frame white, but in my new place I'll paint it either brown or black depending on what color of kitchen table I get. Simple, practical, and cute!!!

Our First Place

So I was thinking about the song "You're Gonna Miss This," by Trace Adkins, and the chorus says this:

"You're gonna miss this, you're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days hadn't gone by so fast.
These are the some times, so take a good look around.
You may not know it now, but you're gonna miss this."

I was thinking about how good life really is, and no matter how many castles in the clouds I build about our future, DJ and I have a great life now. Someday I'm sure I'll look back at our little apartment and our simple life with just the two of us and I really will miss aspects of it. Here are some pictures of our first place together:

Our little living room, which looks even littler now because we have a sweet massive couch in it that takes up SO much space

Our bedroom, which literally is big enough for our bed and a skinny dresser.

Our EENSY WEENSY bathroom/laundry room. The door doesn't even open all the way because it hits into the sink. This picture doesn't even do justice to how tiny it is.

The kitchen... with minimal storage space, we bought a shelf for our food. There's not even a drawer big enough to fit all our silverware side by side, so we have two silverware drawers.

Fun With The Kaisers

Last week my SIL Carly came out to Utah with her 3 kids, Blaine, Bekah and Cougar (whose name is technically Joseph, but I know that I, for one, have never ever called him that). They moved to Virginia about a week before our wedding, and we haven't had a chance to see them since then, so it was great to be able to have some time to visit and play. Bekah is completely smitten with DJ, and they had a great time together. She wanted to be next to him at every meal, and every time he came into a room she dropped what she was doing and went to him. One afternoon I was carrying her around and she said, "Just go put me down with DJ ok?" The last night we saw them, DJ left his hat and Blaine ran out the front door to try to give it to him, and when he realized we were gone, Bekah had a come-apart. I guess she cried for about 5 minutes. I guess there's no question who her favorite is :)

Bekah and I made brownies and she licked the mixing paddle. Unfortunately, this is the only picture I have of Blaine from the whole weekend.
Bekah and DJ playing. She loves him so much!
Me and Becky
Our adorable baby Coug. I don't know if I've ever met a more happy and content baby!

We had so much fun with you guys! We love you!

Rebuked and Tagged into Blogging

So, I created a blog a few weeks ago and realized I had NOTHING to blog about! My wonderful MIL and SIL guilted me into getting started. My MIL "tagged" me in her blog and here's what I'm supposed to do:

Since I have been tagged, here goes... The rules: A. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning. B. Each player lists 6 facts/habits about themselves. C. At the end of the post, the player then tags 6 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asks them to read your blog

I'm not going to tag 6 people only because I don't know 6 more people who blog who weren't already tagged by my MIL. But, here we go...

1. I married my best friend, DJ Savage on August 14, 2009

2. I love watching sports... Football in the fall, basketball in the winter, and I'm learning to love baseball (if it's the Braves:) )

3. I LOVE taking pictures of nature!

4. I am the reigning Kaiser House Idol Champion. Go ahead, be jealous.

5. Boys seem to run in my family. I have only one sister and 3 brothers, and I have 6 nephews and only one niece.

6. I LOVE to craft. Today, I made myself capris out of some old pants. Here's the result:

And there you go! Blog # 1 is complete!!!
