8 Months!

So, now that October is nearly over, I guess it's time to talk about how Lexsi turned 8 months old on the 15th!  Here are her 8 month pictures:

Yeah, not the best month... I tried two separate days to take her picture and she just wasn't having it.  Too bad, so sad.

Some things about Lex:

- She is army crawling!  She's getting around anywhere she wants to go, and it's sooo cute to watch!  I love it!
- She has now mastered the art of saying "Mama."  She also learned how to say her B's and N's this month.
-  She is an excellent eater!  She doesn't eat baby food anymore, because she only likes food she can chew. She eats spaghetti, bread, bananas, crackers, cheerios, barbecue chicken (weird, right?), mashed potatoes... you name it, she eats it.  The only thing I've had her spit out is pineapple.  So, she's crazy like her dad and doesn't eat that fruit!
- She is VERY vocal.  If she doesn't like something, she'll let you know, loud and clear.  When she's happy, she babbles all the time.  She "sings" a lot throughout the day too, which is awesome!
- After the move, she was kind of struggling to get back in a good sleeping pattern.  2 nights ago, I discovered the solution:  I put a body pillow in her crib.  I had had the thought before that I should do that, cause it would make her snuggly and she wouldn't be able to turn around in her bed like she usually does.  BUT, of course, I was worried because people say babies can suffocate on pillows.  Well, I decided to throw that worry out the window and I'm SO glad I did.  She's been sleeping wonderfully ever since then!
-Rooms that echo are her favorite.  She usually yells "Dada!" over and over once she realize her voice echos.
- She is a big time show off!  Particularly in church-- she is always peeking over our shoulders or the pew to get the attention of the people behind us, then she'll flash them a big grin to get more attention.  If people happen to not pay attention to her, she will "talk" to them until they do.  The girl knows how to get what she wants!

Broken.

So, remember how I had a baby in February?  And remember how it was discovered that I have a crazy big tailbone?  Well, ever since then, but particularly the past couple of months, my tailbone has been hurting.  I kind of felt like a weenie to admit it, cause maybe it was just in my head, since I knew it was big or something?  Anyway, I mostly ignored it, but the pain became un-ignorable.  I kept complaining to DJ and he kept telling me to go to the doctor, and I kept making up excuses why I couldn't {the whole moving to a new city thing seemed like a pretty good excuse}, and the vicious cycle continued.  Finally, on Monday, I'd had enough.  So I called and scheduled an appointment {which I happened to schedule for the day I moved-- not sure what I was thinking there?} and went in to the doctor.  I explained the symptoms, and he told me it was cracked.  It most likely happened when I was trying for over an hour to push Lex out and her shoulders were getting stuck on my tailbone.  [You know how kids say "Don't step on a crack or you'll break your mother's back?"  Well, Lex can say that she really did break my back... errr... bum...]  He then felt around and pushed on it, and that made me realize my pain was DEFINITELY not faked.  I hadn't tried pushing on it before cause, hello?  Who just pushes around on their bum like that?  Anyway, he told me the best thing to do was to get a shot, and if that didn't fix it I'd have to see a surgeon.  I opted for the shot, which happened to go directly into my tailbone.  Ever get a shot to the bone before?  I don't recommend it.  Although, honestly, after giving birth, it didn't seem too awful.  The idea of it was worse than the actual shot.  It didn't feel great, but it certainly wasn't more painful than an epidural... or recovering from a c-section.  In the end, I realized I should have gone to the doctor months ago instead of living through it.  If the pain doesn't go away in a couple days, I'll go back for another shot.  If that doesn't work, I'll have to see a surgeon about having my "tail" removed.  Gross.  I'm banking on the shots being the answer!

Mong me a fish.

I was a rough night.  Lex was up nearly every hour, crying her heart out.  At about 5am, I was feeding her, and for some reason "Matchmaker, matchmaker, make me a match," came into my head.  My exhausted brain made the leap from there to "Fishmonger, fishmonger, mong me a fish."  That got me wondering if "mong" was even a word.  Well, it is.  Kind of-- it's slang in Britain for a foolish person.  So, I don't think you can really mong someone a fish.

A writer writes.
A player plays.
A teacher teaches.

So naturally a monger should mong.  But they don't.

Morals of the story:

#1- Sometimes, words don't follow the rules.  Welcome to linguistics.
#2- You're never going to think of that song the same again, right?
#3- This whole moving thing is making me crazy.

The Evolution of Lulu

Here's the thing:  My baby gets called a LOT of different things.  Alexsi, Lexsi, Lex, Lou, and Lulu are all used on a regular basis.  When she was tiny, I usually called her Alexsi and sometimes Lexsi.  As she's gotten older, DJ and I usually call her Lex.  Somewhere in the last 8 months, I started calling her Lexsi Lou, which got shortened to Lou, which then became Lulu.  I call her Lulu as often as I call her Lex.  So there you go.  An explanation of where she got her nickname.  And now, for your viewing pleasure.... recent pictures of my Lulu.

This is so typical of when these girls are together!  Kate is sooo  sweet, and Lex just loves her, but hasn't quite figured out how to show her affection.  So Kate gets poked in the face.  And she is very very tolerant of it!!!

I heard Lex crying one night and went into her room to find her like this.  She is such a monkey.

Lex looooves to play the piano!  She dances and sings while she plays... so musical!

At a football game with Daddy-- she was having a rough time that night.

I love her big, toothy smile!

Come on, right?  She kills me with her growling!

She got the hood off to reveal her crazy morning hair, pre-hairdo.  Also, she's getting so close to crawling, it's pretty exciting!

KITCHEN!

Guys... GUYS!!!  I just got back from my final walk through in my new house.   It looks A-MAZING!  I snapped a couple quick pictures of my kitchen, cause the cupboard doors are finally in.  Could you just die? They're seriously leaning toward yellow, which, HELLO?!?  I didn't even know was going to happen when I decided my color scheme was grey, blue and yellow.  I thought they were off-white, which they are, but a yellow-y off-white.  I'm in love.  There were like 5 different guys who came in while we were in there and all said they thought my cabinets look amazing.  Yes, thank you, I'm an excellent cabinet chooser.  I think I'm closing next Tuesday... meaning that a week from today I'll be moving in!!!!!
