Moment of Fame

Last Friday we went to the BYU vs. UCF game here in Provo.  It was a great time!  DJ took his friend Andrew, who is in a wheelchair, so he and Andrew had FANTASTIC seats.  While in those seats, ESPN captured DJ's look of disgust while the crowd boo-ed Heaps after an interception was thrown (and yes, he was actually upset with the crowd, not Heaps).  A few of his friends got pictures of the screen when he was on ESPN, and here they are:

This one is my personal fave:

My favorite part of the game was that Alexsi was going CRAZY!  She's never moved so much!  The combination of me yelling and jumping around along with the noise of the crowd was enough to make that little girl wild!

Post 2 of the Day-- The Sweet New Dad

Remember how earlier today I posted a picture of DJ starting a blanket for Alexsi?  Well he finished it all in one day.  Want to see it??

He designed and made it all by himself!  How great is he??  He even chose out the fabric from my fabric collection all on his own-- what a guy!

The back is pink polka-dotted flannel, courtesy of Grammie Bean (love ya, mom!).  DJ designed the "A" blanket to look like the Atlanta Braves' "A" logo, and then made it girly for Alexsi.  The coolest part is, it's obviously her initial as well.  That little girl is going to have her daddy wrapped so tightly around her finger, he's not even going to know what to do with himself :)  And here's one last picture of my fantastically sweet hubby, working away at the baby blanket today:

So cute.  I absolutely adore him!!!

The Perfect Use For All Those Scraps!

If you like to craft at all,  you {may} have turned into a slight crafting-supply-hoarder.  I have fabric scraps out the wazoo!  I mean seriously, chances are I can use them for something, right?  The correct answer is always yes!  So yesterday I decided to put some of those scraps to good use!

I got some flannel from my mom (side note-- I clearly come by the "fabric-hoarding" rightfully.  That woman has a few big tubs FULL of fabric.  And I'm jealous of it.  I'm trying to build my collection.  Seriously, you never know when you might need it!) and sewed a basic baby blanket together.  Yellow back, stripey front.  Next, I started cutting out circles from my scraps.  At this point, my mom asked, in a slightly, concerned tone, "Don't you want a cup to trace or something?"  I simply laughed and reminded her that, hello, when have I ever been one to do things to perfection?  Haha!  Below is a close-up to show you that clearly, my circles weren't actually circles.  And, meh, no big deal.

At this point I realized that with all the circles in different patterns, a stripey background would simply be too busy, so I flipped the blanket and made the stripeys the back.  TaDaa!!!! I know, I'm a genius.  I kept cutting circle-esque shapes, of different sizes and colors:

And when I felt I had enough, I laid them out on the blanket.  Again, not in any pattern or anything.  Randomness is kind of my thing.

I stuck a pin in the middle of each circle to hold them in place, then proceeded to sew them.  I did NOT turn the edges under, and that was intentional.  I want the edges to fray!  So I sewed around the interior of each circle, leaving 1/4-1/2 (ish) on the outer edge of the seam.  I figure once I wash it a few times, the edges will curl and fray wonderfully.  Here it is all sewn:

And with the stripey back:

And that's it!  Super easy and cute!

And speaking of super cute...  when was the last time your husband took it upon himself to make his baby girl a home-made quilt all by himself?  I submit that he is the cutest/sweetest little daddy and husband ever!  I love this guy!!!

And don't worry, I'll totally post pictures of the finished product :)

Weekend Madness

Yesterday, DJ's younger brother Sean got married.  The weekend was  a whirlwind of events, and I am exhausted.  Here's how it all went down:

Thursday:  Nikki, Keesha, Nick, DJ and I head for Lovell around 4:30 pm.  Five people in my car may seem like a lot, and it is.  DJ drove the whole way, Nick, Keesha and Nikki sat in the back, and I sat cross-legged in front the majority of the time because all the snacks and drinks were at my feet.  It was still fun, and we played some awesome games with my iPod.  We would go in a circle, decide on a theme, and put my iPod on shuffle.  For example: whichever song came up for you was your life theme song, or the song played at your funeral, or your break-up song, or your "fight-scene" song.  We had a blast with it!  We got home at about 12:30 and promptly went to bed.

Friday was by far the most relaxing day.  We got up and had crepe-suzies, then took showers after learning about "the magic button."  The thing is, Mom and Dad Savage really need a new water heater.  Sometimes it just shuts off, or something.  You just go down to it and push in the red button and it works again.  That works fine for their little family of four living at home, and Mom was convinced that it would work with the 12 of us that were there this weekend.  Sean was teasing her, reminding her she didn't have a tankless water heater.  I wasn't interested in a cold shower (I'll admit, I don't have confidence in the magic button), so I went down to Grandma's for my shower.  She told me I could use all the hot water I wanted, and she even started the shower for me!  Haha!  I seriously love her so much!  We started to get things ready for the Open House that night, and I was on potato-peeling duty.  Mom's peeler was not good and I asked Nikki to borrow one of her aunts and help me out.  She disappeared down to Annie's to get one and came back an hour later, when, conveniently, all the potatoes were peeled and all the other work that needed to be done at that time was completed as well. (Hahahaha love you, Nik!)  That night the Open House was great!  It was super relaxed and fun.  I got to talk to family I haven't seen in a while, and we just laughed and had a great time!

Friday morning I woke up at 5:30 am.  The problem is, I have really bad eczema on my legs that seems to only be getting worse with my pregnancy.  At home, I use tea tree conditioner on it and it works like a charm, but of course I didn't bring any with me.  So I woke up because my legs hurt and itched SO badly, and there was nothing I could do about it.  I didn't ever get back to sleep, and at 7 am DJ and I got up and got ready to go to the wedding.  We went to Worland with Sean, Jordan and Mat.  I was really sick that morning, and probably not very nice to be around.  I fixed Mom's hair for her (and I believe I've convinced her to save her monies for a Chi.  Totally worth it, I promise), and just hung out til everyone else showed up, closer to 10.  The wedding was great, Kristi looked beautiful and it was just exciting to be able to be there for such a special event!  We were in Worland all day just hanging out for the reception that night, and it was a pretty uneventful day.  The most exciting thing that happened to me was that while I was holding Kaitlyn, she spit up on me, and when it dried, it literally looked like a diagram of the female reproductive system on my dress, complete with ovaries, Fallopian tubes, uterus-- the works.   Every time I looked down at the stain the rest of the day, I laughed.  The combination of very little sleep a long day and those lovely pregnancy hormones did a number on me, and I cried SO much yesterday.

I cried at the wedding.
I nearly cried when I found out DJ had to eat at the head table and not by me.
I cried when we got home from Worland and I promptly threw up.
I cried because my legs itched.
I cried when the BYU game started and I was in Lovell instead of in the stands (ironically, I didn't cry at all about the horrendousness of the game).
I cried because I had a headache (ummm... hello?  Counter-productive).
I cried because DJ accidentally elbowed me in my aching head.

It was kind of a rough day.

Today we drove home.  The final 4 hours or so of the trip, I read a book to DJ and Keesha (and Nick and Nikki, when they weren't sleeping), and got a ridiculously sore throat. BUT-- it made the trip go faster.  I probably shouldn't have continued reading through Provo Canyon, because as soon as we pulled into my parents' driveway, I promptly projectile-vomited all over the concrete.  My sincerest apologies to Nick, Keesha, Nikki and DJ, who had to witness my grossness.  I feel bad about that.  Some things can't be controlled!

It was a good weekend, but it was a quick one, and I'm glad to be home on my couch relaxing :)

Hormones

Remember how I told you all that my hormones have been surprisingly in check since I've been pregnant?  It's been one of my most prided things in the last 18 weeks.  Which is why, I'm sure, they went crazy last night, just to remind me that I'm not really in control of them and they do what they want.

So, DJ and I went to the store to get milk eggs, and, of course, frozen pizzas.  When we got home, I threw two pizzas in the oven (little pizzas, guys, we're not porkers over here).  The thing is, I eat little Totino's frozen pizzas a LOT.  Like, at least once a week.  So obviously, I know how to cook them.  BUT.. for some reason, when I opened the oven, DJ's Tony's pizza was beautiful, and my Totino's?  Blackened.  I cooked it for LESS time than I ever have before, and somehow, it burned.  So there I am, pulling out the hubs' lovely pizza and my crappy one, and the fire alarm is going off for like a solid 3 minutes (no joke, I'm sure my brothers and dad upstairs can attest), and I'm getting more and more annoyed.  THEN, I cut DJ's pizza, and as I'm moving it from the pan to a plate, I drop a few pieces onto the stove top.  That really did me in.  In a fit of rage, I raised my pizza cutter and SLAMMED it down against the pizza pan (because somehow, that loud noise was going to make me feel better???).  DJ looked at me wide-eyed, the poor guy.  I really don't get angry much, and I'm pretty sure he was shocked at my outburst.  He just said, "It's okay..." and I responded with an angry, "NO!!!"  He took his pizza and sat in the recliner and I kept looking over at him, as though daring him to laugh at my ridiculousness.  Good thing he's much smarter than that.  I cut my own pizza, sat on the couch, and proceeded to eat it.  DJ asked if it was okay, and I know he was ready to share his pizza with me but I was having none of that.  Stubborn me, I forced down half of that blackened pizza before I finally gave up.  DJ asked if I wanted another one and I let him know I was quite done with pizzas for the night.  He came over and gave me a hug and said he was really sorry I was having a rough evening.  Well that nearly made me cry.

Curse you, hormones.

Luckily, today, this is all pretty funny.  And I'm hoping I can keep those hormones at bay for, oh... the rest of forever!

Baby Chair!!! (A Screamin Deal!!)

So, I've been planning on buying a glider with a gliding ottoman for the baby's room.  The ones I was looking at were about $180, so that's what I was planning on paying.  Since it was Labor Day and we had the day off, the hubs and I went to the RC Willey Outlet to check out the chairs there.  There were gliding chairs with ottoman's for $180, just like I expected.  THEN, we happened across this little beauty:

Ummm... LOVE!  And it's sooooo comfortable!  It's a rocking chair/recliner.  It was originally $560, on sale for $279, with an additional 20% off, we worked with our favorite salesman Nick, and he gave us about another $15 off and then we had a $25 gift card on top of that, so we ended up paying less than $195 including tax for this!  So cool, right?  It's way way nicer than a glider!  It will eventually find it's home in the baby's room, but for now it's taken up residence in our family room, with DJ in it:

He's been in it since we got it home.  Maybe it's awesome enough that he'll want to get up in the night and rock our baby :)  I'm certain it's comfortable enough to sleep in, which is probably a good thing, considering the purpose we bought it for!

Woohoo!  We're getting excited for you, baby!!!
